Jedi High Council

Council_Chamber.png
"The Reborn Jedi Order under Master Quellus is as corrupt as the Senate it purports to protect. Just as the Third Republic has become mired in corporate interests and obsessions with inclusivity, so too have the Reborn Order become inward and fearful, ever glancing over their shoulders for the next imagined threat, seeing enemies in every corner. It blights their ability to think clearly, and has led to them becoming book burners and censors, as if they have a monopoly on knowledge, dictating what people can and cannot think. It’s insulting, and restricts those of us who could use that power for more – to become greater, and wiser, than any Jedi." - Thane, on discussing the Jedi High Council with Zaracoda Wolph on Vaa.

The Reborn Jedi High Council, also known simply as the Jedi Council, is the primary Jedi Council of the Reborn Jedi Order since the Grand Proclamation and establishment of the Third Galactic Republic and the revised Jedi Order under Junun Waay. The High Council meets in the central tower of the rebuilt Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

The High Council is comprised of twelve leading members of the Order, as well as one Grand Master (in slight departure from the Old Jedi Order on which the Reborn are based), each chosen by the serving Council members to join them when one of their own number departs or is lost, for whatever reason. They adjudicate on nearly all matters concerning the Jedi, such as the tenets by which they live, the system of training, how they involved themselves in galactic affairs, and their relationship with the Republic.

Grand Master Jundal Quellus♠

GrandMasterJundQuellus.png Species/Gender/Age: Chagrian Male, 72
Class/Role: Jedi Sentinel/Leader
Master: Vodan (Yoda's species, deceased)
Admitted:: 1,171 ABY (Grand Master in 1,188 ABY)

A well-respected leader of the High Council with a stern and commanding attitude, Quellus was born on the Chagrian homeworld of Champala and was taken by the Jedi Order and trained from infancy, trained by the famous and well-respected Master Vodon (who had been the apprentice of Grand Master Junun Waay, the Chevin Master who reformed the Order, and Vodon in turn had trained another Grand Master prior to Quellus). Much of his time as a padawan was spent exploring tomb worlds and looking up accounts of Force relics, himself and Vodon committed to rooting out the dark side trinkets in the galaxy and destroying them.

He is a staunch traditionalist (better known as Waayist), vehemently opposed to dark side and other Force-using groups, but is nevertheless very invested in the future of the Order, taking close personal interest in the training of new apprentices. A close friend of Supreme Chancellor Paralles and a mover in many circles, Quellus is remembered for his decisiveness in combating the Rift Jedi during the Second Outer Rim Conflict (despite the fact the leader of the Rift Jedi, Zam Kessar, was once Quellus' own padawan).

Master Rynseh Lahan♦

Rynseh.png Species/Gender/Age: Cathar Male, 52
Class/Role: Jedi Guardian
Master: Jundal Quellus
Admitted:: 1,217 ABY

A former pupil of Jundal Quellus, staunch Waayist, and war hero of the Second Outer Rim Conflict, Rynseh spent the better part of his career within the Reborn Jedi Order as a soldier and later a pariah, not only for his patriotic and strong-minded views regarding the Force and power, but also for his own perceived failures by having fathered a child against the Jedi Code.

A wielder of the blue blade of a Jedi Guardian, Rynseh is a once-and-current member of Quellus' secretive and hard-line anti-dark side resurgent Jedi Templars, dedicating to rooting out all potential followers and agents of would-be Sith and dark warriors. Committed and deadly, Rynseh's appointment to the Jedi High Council by Quellus comes as the Grand Master seeks to establish his dominance over the Order, a restructuring sought to better end the threats of the dark side. Others, however, view it as an internal purge and play for power, as the more moderate members find themselves increasingly sidelined.

Master Garth Medion♣

GarthMedionPortrait.png Species/Gender/Age: Pau’an Male, 51
Class/Role: Jedi Shadow/Templar
Master: Gemara Raelon (Tholothian female, deceased)
Admitted:: 1,218 ABY

Once a brilliant strategist for the Jedi, Master Medion is known for his sharp brain and intense focus whether he is training or on a mission. For a long time, he trained as a Sentinel within the order, but was eventually convinced to join the ranks of the Jedi Shadows and found himself able to utilise his sharp thinking on numerous covert assignments.

His apprentice, Illyvar, had a tough tutelage under Medion, having her initially spirited temper honed into a strict adherence to the code of the Reborn Order. However, Medion did not see Illyvar’s training to completion, having been convinced to join the illusive order of Jedi Templars and for many years he was largely absent from Jedi business.

His recent return, alongside the presumed dead Master Rahan has left many speculating on his activities over the last few years.

Master Thackbal♠

MasterThackbal.png Species/Gender/Age: Mon Calamari Male, 49
Class/Role: Jedi Ambassador
Master: Jundal Quellus
Admitted: 1,196 ABY

Thackbal showed promise at a very young age, and was indeed the first of Quellus' many fast-developing apprentices (wielding a golden-hued blade in his honour). As with all Jedi, Thackbal was taken from his homeworld (New Dac) at a very young age, and trained at the Jedi Temple until being chosen by the future Grand Master, where he then found himself following Quellus (and Quellus' own Master) to several relic-rich planets. It was during this time that he discovered his aptitude for diplomacy, often being even greater than his Chagrian Master in dealing with the authorities of the respective planets.

Amongst the few Jedi to ascend to Mastery despite not completing the training of his own padawan, Thackbal played a pivotal role in handling diplomatic relations with the reformed Outer Rim Alliance leading up to and during the Second Outer Rim Conflict, directly dealing with Chief Foreman-turned-General Davos Stal on numerous occasions, before being one of the main minds behind the Belsmuth-Quelii Treaty. For his part and expertise, Thackbal was invited to join the Jedi High Council shortly thereafter.

Master Vemrus♣

MasterVemrus.png Species/Gender/Age: Iktotchi Male, 60
Class/Role: Jedi Seer
Master: Yuuli (Ankuran Gungan, Deceased)
Admitted: 1,201 ABY

Vemrus is a quiet Master with a deep insight into the Unifying Force. Alongside his species natural ability for preconception, Vemrus has been trained as a seer from birth and is now regarded as one of the greatest seers in the galaxy. His visions have been the basis for discovering many Dark Side artefacts for the purpose of destroying them.

The Iktotchi seer is an invaluable member of the Jedi council and is often looked to by the other members for his insight on matters where the path is unclear. Despite this, as with most visions, the truth is rarely clear and Vemrus will often spend many days deciphering the meaning of what he has seen.

Master Hale Dunrar♠

Hale_Danrar.png Species/Gender/Age: Neimoidian Male, 58
Class/Role: Jedi Ace
Master: Jan Varsk (Zabrak female, defected to Rift Jedi)
Admitted: 1,199 ABY

Trained by the Jedi Ace Pilot, Jan Varsk, an Iridonian who was frequently lauded and praised by the Third Republic press for her heroisms in several conflicts and incidents, Dunrar was chosen for his natural aptitude for machinery and piloting. Varsk honed his skills for years, his ability with the blade not as sharp as hers in battle, but his connection with the Force was great, often making him the more diplomatic of the pair when in certain situations. Of course, in the air, the two were almost perfectly matched, particularly by the time of the Second Outer Rim Conflict, when Jan Varsk defected to Zam Kessar's ORA Rift Jedi.

The two were in the same space battle against one another, and Dunrar was forced to shoot down his Master's fighter. Whilst she survived, he was recognised for his sacrifice and determination, and was soon elevated to the Jedi Council. He wields a green lightsaber, and is known for his patience, resolute but firm and quiet belief in the Reborn Jedi Order and Grand Master Quellus, who he thinks is the Order's best hope.

Chief Archivist Ven Kel Farr♠

VenKelFarr.png Species/Gender/Age: Human Male, 57
Class/Role: Jedi Guardian/Archivist
Master: Kandel Sar (Echani female, deceased), Morla Dero (Kaminoan female, former Archivist)
Admitted: 1,201 ABY

Widely hailed as a Jedi "Warrior-Poet", Ven Kel Farr was trained by the Echani Jedi Battlemaster Kandel Sar, and the pair served alongside one another during the Second Outer Rim Conflict, both slaying more foes (and Rift Jedi) than any other Jedi in the conflict, although Kandel sacrificed herself close to the end of the war to ensure the safe evacuation of several Republic soldiers and Jedi - including an injured Ven Kel.

Upon the end of the war, Ven Kel was offered the position of Battlemaster, but turned it down in favour of devoting himself to knowledge, going under a second apprenticeship to Chief Archivist Morla Dero, an elderly Kaminoan member of the Jedi Council. When Dero was too old for both roles, Farr ascended to Chief Archivist, becoming renowned both for his tactical mind and prowess, as well as his knowledge of literature. He is a staunch believer in rooting out all darkness and destroying such relics. Master Farr wields a double-bladed blue lightsaber.

Master Nillak♠

Nillak.png Species/Gender/Age: Quarren Male, 65
Class/Role: Jedi Watchman
Master: Brogue (Bith male, deceased)
Admitted: 1,191 ABY

Master Nillak ascended to the High Council amid the Second Outer Rim Conflict, having served for many years as a Jedi Watchman out in the Outer Rim as the crisis developed, and so was immediately viewed as a strong candidate for leadership in the whole affair, having developed ties with the leaders of the worlds. His master, a Bith named Brogue, had served as a Watchman also, but had died a short while before the war with ORA.

A master of words and technology, Nillak helped many Outer Rim worlds, and convinced many to not join the Alliance when war broke out, managing to rally much support to the Republic and the Jedi. Since then, he has been regarded as the representative of the Watchmen on the High Council, and focuses heavily on their choice of recruit, a careful and caring individual, but one that is well-versed in combat, using his single green saber when necessary.

Although a staunch figure, Nillak is not seen as one of the closest figures to Grand Master Quellus, and has not been privy to many of the recent changes and developments within the Jedi, finding himself closer to Masters Thurius and Sotah.

Master Morla Dero♠

Kaminoan.png Species/Gender/Age: Kaminoan Female, 95
Class/Role: Jedi Sage
Master: Vodan (Yoda's species, deceased)
Admitted: 1,155 ABY

Morla Dero, ancient by Kaminoan (and many other species) standards, was trained by the same master who trained several Grand Masters, including Grand Master Quellus, and arose to the High Council early in her career, as well as Chief Archivist of the Jedi Archives, claiming to know nearly all possible information right up until the day she handed the baton over to her informal apprentice, an already-trained Jedi Knight, Ven Kel Farr.

Although she has one of the rare silver-hued lightsabers, Morla abhors physical combat, citing that everyone is too young and too impatient, with some very curt and harsh attitudes and mannerisms. She was not directly involved in the Second Outer Rim Conflict, serving as an advisor, and very aggressive in her ways towards the Rift Jedi as well as those who cause conflicts. Despite this, she is surprisingly wise and well-read, but has never been one for kind words or comfort.

Master Ciera Olus♣

MasterOlus.png Species/Gender/Age: Mirialan Female, 56
Class/Role: Jedi Healer
Master: Nourin Parr (Ithorian, Deceased)
Admitted: 1,202 ABY

Recognised at a young age to posses the ability to manipulate the force to sense and cure ailments, Olus was trained as a Healer within the Jedi order. Her strong natural ability allowed her to advance very quickly within the order. Olus was often requested to accompany Masters on missions above the abilities of her fellow padawans given her invaluable healing assistance in the field.

Olus is kind-hearted but passionately defends the Jedi way, fearing the chaos she believes would exist without the Order. She soon became the Chief Healer within the order and her place on the council was assured soon after. She now guides other potential Healers within the council, nurturing their innate ability.

Master Gira Veldryl♣

MasterGiraVeldryl1.png Species/Gender/Age: Arkanian Female, 43
Class/Role: Jedi Sentinel
Master: Jaymuss (Whiphid, Deceased)
Admitted: 1,214 ABY

The youngest Jedi admitted to the council for many years, Gira Vendryl has risen the ranks and proven to be one of the most adaptive Jedi in the order. She prides herself on being ready for anything and can't stand losing. Her master, Jaymuss was a old and gentle Jedi and Veldryl often believed he was holding her back. Therefore, she became highly self-disciplined and trained herself in many arts, even going beyond the skills taught in the temple - learning slicing and mechanics alongside her intense physical fitness regime.

Vendryl has been seen as a poster girl for the order as a highly disciplined but agile warrior. She has survived many tricky situations alone (as she prefers to work) and her numerous successes within and outside the order gave just cause for her seat on the council despite her relatively young age.

Master Sotah♠

Master_Sotah_small1.png Species/Gender/Age: Selkath Male, 69
Class/Role: Jedi Consular
Master: Adul Nann (Sullustan male, deceased)
Admitted: 1,212 ABY - Dismissed: 1,218 ABY

Seen as somewhat of a liberal amongst the largely Waayist High Council, Master Sotah is a very calm and collected individual, with anger rarely ever entering his psyche. Softly-spoken and only ever speaking words with strong meaning, Sotah is very respected amongst many of his peers, even those who disagree with his more open attitudes, as they see him as a wise and fair Jedi Master, who will always give them sound advice and aid.

He is known for having trained two very troublesome and strong-minded Jedi Padawans to Knighthood, the Human woman Loren, and the Human male Thane, both of whom had a history of short tempers, emotional history and strong views, both of whom had been failed by other Masters but served well by Sotah, who also developed a close bond with both. Sotah served with distinction during the Second Outer Rim Conflict alongside Loren, years before Thane joined the Jedi Order, although he also remained one of the most fervent critics of the war - some even claimed him of being a Rift Jedi sympathiser. In truth, he believes in accepting all avenues of thought, so long as they don't advocate the abuse of life, per his belief in the Living Force.

Master Sotah is amongst those finding themselves increasingly sidelined by Quellus and his new shadow cabinet of crusaders, often remaining ostracised and uninvited to certain discrete sessions of Council.

Master Thurius♣

ThuriusPortrait.png Species/Gender/Age: Cerean Male, 65
Class/Role: Jedi Guardian
Master: Bailyph Dorson (Human, Deceased)
Admitted: 1,216 ABY - Dismissed: 1,218 ABY

Thurius was a stern but proud Jedi in his youth, but with a strong sense of discipline. He studied lightsaber duelling in great depths and became recognised for his prowess in the many lightsaber forms. Thurius eventually became the head instructor for lightsaber combat in the Reborn Jedi Order.

Thurius took on the young Cathar Mykles as a padawan and taught him very strictly, wishing him to be the very best padawan. Thurius encouraged Mykles to take risks and blames himself for Mykles death at the hands of gang members in Lower Coruscant when Mykles set out for a mission alone. Thurius changed after that event and vowed to never push anyone beyond their capabilities. So, when he finally took on his second padawan, Bomoor, he encouraged his natural ability in the force rather than enforcing his strict lightsaber regiment upon the Ithorian. Thurius now sits on the high council and still acts as Duel Master. He can still speak on the side of action from time-to-time, but is found to be a much more reserved than he once was.

Like Master Sotah, Thurius is vilified for his apparent failures with former Jedi Knights Bomoor Thort and Thane, and has found himself pushed aside in favour of Quellus' more apparent supporters.
