802 words; about a 4 minute read

Chapter: Chapter I: Web of Fate
Location: Nar Shaddaa roofs
Timeline: Just after "Conflict of Interests Part 2"

Sev Rezer was wholly unhappy with the way things had gone when dealing with those dar'jetii or sith in the common language. Sev stubbornly refused to admit that Thane and his jedi friend Boomor had showed valor fighting those Axion apprentices. And yet, he couldn't trust either one. Thane was filled with anger, which, in Sev's estimation, normally didn't bold well for the Jedi. The Ithorian, Sev thought, was calmer, but looked more indecise, more in doubt about the actions they were about to perform.

But not enough to stop him of follow me, thought the Mandalorian, noticing the Jedi had also climbing towards the roofs that would led to Grogga's palace. The Bounty Hunter stopped and looked over the horizon. "You, Jetiise, are all the same", he said suddenly, turning to the shadows where Boomor was most likely hidden. "You all say the force guides you, but you can't even trust my word. I wouldn't look for you only to betray you after. That's not the Mandalorian way."

"The force tells us more than what is to come," Bomoor's voice echoed from the shadows as he stepped forward realising his detection, "It allows us to read people - to see their aura."

The Jedi came to stand beside Rezer and gave him a sideways look, "I will admit though, I was surprised about you. Usually when one is sent to find a deranged Jedi-killer, there is no question of the darkness in their hearts. But you... well, you lurk within the darkness but it is not a clear part of you. Either that, or your deception is really good. It's enough for me to live with for now, anyway. Especially given Thane and Berry having the..."

Bomoor trailed off, realising that Rezer's role in the shared vision might be something best kept secret for now, "...well, we have a common enemy now. I'm certainly not blind to that."

Sev turned to face Boomor. "Deranged? That's how I was described to you, Je'tti?" He gave ithorian jedi a sarcastic laugh. "And you say you have Force on your side." He walked towards Boomor. "I was bitter, angry and annoyed. But I was never deranged. You know why I killed Jedi for a living? Because Jedi caused the death of my parents. I don't care about their motives, but they killed my parents and crippled my clan beyond any repair. We lost everything because you Jedi had your mission."

The Mandalorian turned around to look at the horizon. "I never regretted my actions and I'm not going to start now. I learned that Jedi are as guilty as any target I have to hunt. Nothing more, nothing less. I have no love for you, but I don't hate you. Not anymore. But if you're my target, I'll hunt you like anyone else." He turned around to face Boomor again. "Axion is our common enemy. He manipulated me into getting into the Jedi killing business and at first, I wouldn't care less about it, but, now, I can see I was used. And I'll not be used by anyone. Not now, not until the day I die." He gave the ithorian a glance. "The one hundred thousands credits for his head also help me to go after him."

"Hmph..." Bomoor bobbed his head as he spoke, "...and how does that feel, living by the price of your next target? Don't get me wrong, I am not as narrow-minded as many other Jedi in the Order. I see the people's struggles and know that not all can live as righteously as the Order preaches, but a trade built on death seems intrinsically wrong to me."

The Mandalorian shrugged. "And who cares about what you think is wrong, Jedi? The Universe works this way since the beginning of times. Mandalorians were made for conflict and in the absence of one, I do what we all have learned in our planet: I hunt. I hunt those that prey on the weak as much I hunt those that have crossed the path of the powerful and deserve punishment. I do not judge my targets or my clients. I am not that arrogant."

He approached the stairs that led to another roof."If you're going to accompany me, you better pick up your pace. I'm not going to await you."

Bomoor was annoyed that the Mandalorian dismissed his views so readily - so sure that his was was the only correct way, "You'll have to forgive me," he spoke plainly, "My legs were not made for keeping up a pace, at least not for any length of time. Sometimes we just are what we are."
