Mandalorian Exiles (The "True" Mandalorians)

TrueMandalorians.png
"The True Mandalorians have long lost their way, divided across space as smatterings of guns-for-hire, not even thinking to pay heed to one another. Most of the so-called war-parties, made up as they are of goons and lost killers, are nothing more than excuses for the slaughtering of easy quarry, marauders and raiders who are just as guilty of betraying the way of our people as the farmers of 'Manda'toma', not fit to call themselves Mando - who have no concept of our culture. Do not let Manda'toma have a monopoly on honour, but never again let us be deceived into believing the lies of paper tyrants. We are not mercenaries. We are not slaves. We are not cannon fodder. Oya veman manda!" - Klav Thurn to the True Mandalorians of Jericho, after the death of Zrad Rezer

MILITARY

The military forces of the Mandalorian Exiles are rarely organised in a traditional or centralised sense. Although numerous leaders across the centuries have attempted to unite the Exiles under a single True Mandalore, such efforts have consistently failed. Instead, the True Mandalorians exist as fragmented war-bands divided along clan lines and looser marauder factions, some of which still maintain blood ties to clans within Manda'toma.

Across most Exile factions there is an accepted understanding that, aside from any self-proclaimed (and never universally recognised) True Mandalores, authority rests with the Rally Masters. While smaller war-parties occasionally attempt to claim this title, adopting the protected crimson armour associated with the role, only larger and more established groupings are typically acknowledged by their peers. On rare occasions, Rally Masters convene to plan joint campaigns or raids, a practice most recently revived during the Fifth Bastion War, when the Exiles launched a highly effective and politically divisive strike late in the conflict between the Bastion Moff Empire and Manda'toma.

TRUE / EXILE ARMOUR

Unlike the standardised armour of the Mandalorian Defenders who forged Manda'toma, Exile armour traditions emphasise personal craftsmanship and individual expression. Many of the original True Mandalorians already wore highly customised armour at the time of the schism, a practice that has only intensified over the centuries. As Defender-style armour dwindled in availability, new patterns and designs became widespread among those identifying as True Mandalorians.

In recent centuries, several larger Exile factions have attempted to mass-produce standardised armour sets for recruits and thralls, both to impose cohesion and to project legitimacy. These efforts have proven controversial, with more conservative warriors insisting that true Mandalorians must forge their own armour. As a result, such standardisation has remained inconsistent and faction-specific.

The emblem most commonly associated with the Exiles is that of the ancient Neo-Crusaders, whom they regard as the purest and most successful Mandalorian order. Their defeat at the hands of Revan is viewed not as shameful, but as divinely ordained. The Malachor system remains a site of pilgrimage for many among the True.

Colour-coded rank systems are largely rejected by the Exiles, with the notable exception of Rally Masters. The crimson armour associated with that role is tightly controlled and reserved for recognised leaders. It is considered deeply dishonourable for unacknowledged warriors to display crimson as a primary motif.

As a deliberate mockery of Manda'toma, thralls and new recruits are often issued yellow or gold-stained armour when armour is provided at all. Advancement beyond thrall status is rare, reserved for individuals who demonstrate deeds deemed worthy of Mandalorian recognition.
