MILITARY

The Mandalorian military structure is arrayed into several culturally-historical ranks and sects, running along both clan and governmental lines, meaning there are both local and sector military within Manda'toma. Due to the culture of the founding Mandalorian Defenders, a fierce loyalty to the state is expected, but respective clans are still permitted forces of their own. Inter-clan rivalry and conflict is both expected and permitted, but full-scale wars are very rarely tolerated, and the destruction of clans by overwhelming invasion is not permitted; there are strict rules governing the acquisition and deconstruction of clans, both great and petty.

Clans are permitted to structure their levies in a fashion suited to their leaders, whilst the standing Manda'toma military (which is swelled in size by the clans' warriors during national war-times) has a strict and recognisable hierarchy. Clan leaders will be permitted higher positions of authority within the national fighting force during times of crises, and will be given oversight of lesser clans and other clans' forces as appropriate.

MANDA'TOMA ARMOUR

Armour within the Mandalorian state is generally standardised, being in the style of the armour of the Mandalorian Protectors, spiritual precursors and inspiration for the Defenders that forged Manda'toma (despite the rumours renegade Imperial Knights founded the nation). Although individuals are permitted and often encouraged to personalise these within their clans, the standing military has an expectation of uniformity, with colours denoting rank, rather than personal preference or spiritual meaning (as is often the case with Mandalorian culture). If armour has been too heavily customised during times of large-scale war and drafting, efforts will be made to make that individual's armour more readily identifiable within its rank, such as through the use of capes or other ornaments.

The Mandalorian Knights also feature within the hierarchy, but are also beholden to it. Numbering very few and enjoying a close relationship with Mandalore the Provider (who is suspected of being a knight), they wield uniform silver blades, and typically are only seen during and involved in serious conflicts, both internal and external. Generally, they will find themselves occupying the roles of Rally Masters during larger engagements, or will fulfil specialist roles within the standing army, often operating semi-independently.
