Second Outer Rim Conflict

"GalactaWerks created in the Alliance what had never really existed before: a national consciousness. Whilst unforgivable to the Outer Rim citizens, what they did was not destroy apeople, but make a people."

- Excerpt from The Republic of Suffering (1,199 ABY), an historical account of the Second Outer Rim Conflict.

Beginning: 1,189 ABY, Anti-GalactaWerks Riots End: 1,195 ABY, Belsmuth-Quelii Treaty Place: Trans-Hydian Region, Outer Rim Territories Outcome: Republic military victory/Alliance moral victory
  1. - Outer Rim Alliance disbands majority of its armed forces.
  1. - Outer Rim Alliance is allowed to retain a level of independence, becoming a municipal province of the Republic, such as its own legal system and a small military force.
  1. - Trade is reestablished between the Outer Rim Alliance and the Third Republic.
  1. - GalactaWerks dismissed from Outer Rim Alliance worlds.

Ongoing strife within the Republic
  1. - Due to the legal recognition of the Rift Jedi as an institution of the ORA, many leave the Reborn Jedi Order to join them.
  1. - Loss of business with GalactaWerks, and increased costs of Outer Rim trade causes prices to rise within the Republic.

Major battles/events:

Anti-GalactaWerks Riots (1,189 ABY) - Across many ORA worlds, large and widespread riots take place. Most GW forces are overwhelmed by the well-organised and unionist-led riots. Most assaults are directed at FARWIND OREWORKS GALACTICA (F.O.G - a subsidiary of GALACTAWERKS). This prompts an official crisis and is considered the start of the war by some. Many GW installations are either occupied or destroyed and most staff are taken hostage.

Serenno Negotiations (1,189 ABY) - Jedi Master Thackbal (Third Republic) leads negotiations with Davos Stal (ORA) in the hopes of seeking a peaceful settlement, which ultimately fail.

Schism at Cathar (1,190 ABY) - Jedi Knight Zam Kessar crosses the battlefield to join ORA forces and is followed by a group of followers, who would form the original Rift Jedi

Subjugation of Togoria (1,190 ABY) - Third Republic victory (a ruthless campaign spearheaded by malicious misinformation by Damask Hul and TRIO, resulting in the destruction of numerous cities)

The Onderon Uprisings (1,190-1,194 ABY) - In its pursuit of independence, Onderon rose up in support of the ORA and seized and destroyed numerous Republic/GalactaWerks assets. The world was occupied and liberated at numerous junctures throughout the war, before finally facing its final defeat by an overwhelming GW force that occupied the world and held the ruling family within Unifar Temple until the conclusion of the wider war. The occupation continued into conclusion of the Avalan Crisis years later.

The Taming of Bothawui (Bothan Campaign) (1,189-1,195 ABY) - The Bothans proved to be one of the most vociferous opponents of the Third Republic during the Conflict, largely objecting to the abuse of power by the administration and growing power of GalactaWerks. It was effectively a minor war of its own, taking a unique - and bitter - shape almost entirely separate from the war with the ORA.

Invasion of Rhen Var (1,195 ABY) - Third Republic forces invaded and occupied Rhen Var, one of the leading worlds of the ORA, towards the end of the war through conventional means.

Defeat of Champala (1,191 ABY) - ORA victory; a cunning and daring assault on the loyalist world was led by Rift Jedi warriors that was largely facilitated through espionage and treasonous government officials

Blockade of Hapes (1,189 ABY) - The Consortium, whilst effectively unaligned but loyal to the Republic, was carefully hemmed in by ORA forces for much of the war, deterring them from taking a side as they maintained favourable trade deals with the Alliance.

The Core Raids (1,189, 1,191, 1,194, 1,195 ABY) - A series of bold raids into Core space utilising shock-and-awe tactics, ORA-aligned forces were able to make strikes at the orbital stations of numerous key Core planets, including Alsaka and Coruscant successfully, as well as a range of planetary assaults designed to ebb at public support for the war.

The Perlemian Campaign (1,194-1,195 ABY) - The name for the final Republic push into the heart of ORA territory, which was ultimately successful in wresting control of most of the hyperlane from the Alliance.

"The Kolto Wars": The Occupation of Manaan (1,193-1,196 ABY) - As bacta was more expensive and less readily-available, kolto was again considered a commodity to be valued during the war. Supportive of the Alliance and keen to establish themselves as their historically-neutral selves, the Selkath provided kolto to both sides, but GalactaWerks was able to convince the Senate of the need to take control of the source, labelling Manaan as traitorous. The world was occupied until after the war's conclusion.

Defeat of Sneeve (1,191 ABY) - Sneeve saw numerous conflicts between Reborn and Rift Jedi, chiefly through aerial warfare. Ultimately, the world was overwhelmed and the Rift withdrew, resulting in Republic occupation.

The First Battle of New Dac (1,192 ABY) - A strong political supporter of the Alliance, the Mon Cala were initially non-combatants until they claimed GalactaWerks-Republic forces had assaulted some of their medical frigates en route to aid beleaguered Alliance worlds, prompting them to declare full allegiance to the ORA as allies. The first battle of New Dac saw the Republic forces repelled.

The Second Battle of New Dac (1,193 ABY) - The second assault on New Dac was a space-dominance victory for the Republic, and they enacted an orbital quarantine for a duration.

The Third Battle of New Dac (1,195 ABY) - Close to the war's end and just prior to the signing of the peace treaty, Alliance/Mon Cala forces launched a surprise assault on the weakened occupying forces and managed to take prisoner numerous leading naval Republic figures, which were used as bargaining tools during the treaty talks.

Destruction of the Wheel (1,189 ABY) - Unknown forces, but believed to be GW-funded, detonated a series of bombs on the Wheel, destroying it with all personnel lost. This drew widespread condemnation but no evidence has been firmly provided to confirm the culprits.

Glee Anselm Revolts (1,190-1,194 ABY) - Glee Anselm was slow to support the Alliance but ultimately provided a firm fighting force against Republic leadership. Throughout the war, Republic forces alternately occupied and retreated from Glee Anselm, until the world acquiesced in the penultimate year due to internal political turmoil and ongoing loss of life.

Defence of Ruusan (1,193 ABY) - Although not a priority target for Republic forces, the agricultural world of Ruusan was successfully defended by the local militias that had risen up in support of the Alliance when an invasion was finally staged, the Republic forces were unable to exert prolonged dominance planetside, although there was significant damage caused to the farmland in the process.

Invasion of Belsmuth (1,195 ABY) - Towards the war's apex, the Reborn Jedi led a large task force in both space and ground warfare against Belsmuth in an attempt to curtail Rift Jedi power. The loss of life, Jedi-v-Jedi conflict and destruction of property marked the invasion as one of the most costly and traumatic conflicts during the war, but ultimately help serve to conclude the fighting.

Blockade of Alba (1,195 ABY) - The final 'battle' of the war and the Perlemian Campaign. Whilst the official ORA capital was not itself occupied, the planet was heavily encircled and effectively taken hostage, with all communications jammed or intercepted, deeply damaging the Alliance war efforts and control. With the recent loss of numerous other leading ORA worlds and the capture of several leading figures, a Republic-favoured stalemate was reached, opening the way for new negotiations.
