The Third Republic Intelligence Office (TRIO) serves as the primary intelligence, counter-intelligence, and strategic analysis body of the Third Galactic Republic. Its remit encompasses internal security, foreign intelligence collection, threat assessment, and covert operations conducted in defence of the Republic and its constitutional order.

TRIO operates under civilian authority and is formally accountable to the Galactic Senate through classified oversight committees. While it maintains close operational ties with the Judicial Forces and Republic-aligned security services, it is institutionally separate from military command structures. This separation is intended to prevent the consolidation of intelligence and armed power that characterised earlier imperial regimes.

In practice, TRIO balances broad autonomy in the field with strict political oversight at the strategic level. Its activities are subject to periodic review, budgetary scrutiny, and legal constraint, though critics within the Senate have periodically raised concerns regarding transparency, mission creep, and the influence of corporate and factional interests.
