Smushing Day Officially Recognised - 12th April 2026

Today marks the formal recognition of "Smushing Day", a milestone moment within Star Wars: A New Age (SWANA), commemorating the completion of one of the project’s most defining and long-anticipated narrative events: the confrontation between Thane of Caanus and Axion on Sleheyron, as his apprentice Amare is captured to be indoctrinated and the crew's individual failures culminate in this shattering event.

Conceived over thirteen and a half years ago, the sequence has evolved from a conceptual endpoint into a fully realised narrative cornerstone. Its completion on 12 April 2026 marks not simply the end of a scene's development, but the culmination of over a decade of thematic refinement, character construction, and tonal calibration.

What Is "The Smushing™"?

The Smushing™ refers to the climactic defeat and mutilation of Thane at the hands of Axion within the Sleheyron synthspice facility. While initially framed as a brutal physical encounter, the finalised sequence represents something far more significant:

• The irreversible collapse of Thane's remaining humanity
• The failure of mercy, restraint, and identity
• The first confirmed fracture in Axion's perceived invincibility
• The catalytic event leading to the emergence of Darth Serus

The moment is defined not only by its physical violence, but by its psychological and philosophical weight. Thane does not merely lose - he is systematically broken, both in body and in belief.

Why It Matters

Within SWANA's broader narrative, Smushing™ Day represents a pivot point.

For over a decade of in-universe and real-world development, Thane has existed in tension between identity, ideology, and control, which is reflected in his relationship with Bomoor Thort (facing his own dark demons) and his apprentice Amare, who suffers the consequences of this failing perhaps more keenly. This confrontation resolves that tension not through triumph, but through destruction.

Axion's role is equally crystallised. No longer a distant or enigmatic antagonist, he is revealed in full as:

• A force that defies conventional scaling
• An entity that weaponises belief and identity
• A presence that cannot be confronted on equal terms

The destruction of one Kaiburr shard during the encounter introduces the first meaningful vulnerability in Axion's dominance, but crucially, this moment of disruption does not translate into victory. Instead, it leads directly into Thane's downfall.

A 13-Year Development Arc

The origin of The Smushing™ dates back approximately 13-14 years, making it one of the oldest continuous narrative threads within the SWANA project.

Over time, the scene underwent significant transformation:

Early iterations focused on spectacle and defeat
Mid-stage drafts explored emotional and relational loss
Final execution centres on systemic collapse and identity fracture, where every member of the Red Raptor crew faces repercussions for their individual actions and choices.

The result is a sequence that aligns fully with SWANA's mature tone: restrained, character-driven, and rooted in consequence rather than indulgence.
